The 15K Formentera Sunset Run is much more than a sunset race. It’s an experience that invites you to discover the island, enjoy a different kind of weekend and, at the same time, help protect one of the Mediterranean’s greatest natural treasures: Posidonia seagrass.
That’s why, for another year, we’re proud to renew our commitment to Save Posidonia, the initiative led by the Formentera Island Council to preserve the Posidonia oceanica meadows surrounding the island.
Posidonia is not only responsible for the crystal-clear turquoise waters that make Formentera so unique. It also plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of the marine ecosystem by producing oxygen, capturing CO₂ and protecting the coastline from erosion. It is truly one of the Mediterranean’s natural lungs, and protecting it has never been more important.
Yet its survival is increasingly threatened by factors such as uncontrolled boat anchoring, pollution and wastewater discharges. That is why the 15K Formentera Sunset Run continues to support Save Posidonia through a corporate donation.
Since day one, we have believed in creating an event that goes beyond sport. The race has become an experience that brings together running, tourism, leisure and environmental responsibility, while also helping raise awareness of the importance of preserving Formentera’s extraordinary natural heritage.
The third edition of the 15K Formentera Sunset Run will take place on 10 October 2026, once again offering both 15K and 5K distances and a unique atmosphere that will fill Formentera with runners ready to enjoy an unforgettable sunset.
Because running in Formentera also means leaving a mark—but one that helps protect the paradise we run through.
